Yesterday morning Ozzie tore off the porch chasing, not one, but two squirrels to the neighbor’s crepe myrtle. The pair taunted Ozzie just like Fred, situated out of his stubby stature’s reach. He was so proud of himself because for once they looked scared. Their little hearts where beating so hard that the pounding was visible from the sidewalk.
After a moment of stalemate, they decided to move. One darted up the tree to the tippy top, gauging whether he could make the 6’ distance to the telephone pole and freedom. The more obese one decided he’d attempt to reach the ground during his friend’s distraction. Ozzie corralled him back up the tree, where the pudgy pest quickly joined his friend.
Ozzie and I watched and waited for what was sure to be a spectacular jump to the pole and escape when, POOF, they were gone. Both squirrels disappeared like magic! They weren’t hanging upside down on the pole chirping at Ozzie, or trying to pee on me from another tip-top branch. They weren’t even galloping along the power lines as is their normal response every other time we act out this scenario.
As the top branches swayed to and fro without their rodent parasites, it occurs to me. That’s what Fred was after, Hope’s magic. Fairies are magic. You may find evidence of them, but you never catch them. #ozzie #fred #fairies #michelenimtz
I guess that pesky pair of “Fred wannabes” managed to steal a little magic and it has Hope moving permanently to higher ground. A small platform has now arrived at the top of the ladder. I’m not sure what is happening, but this little fairy is on the move again!
