I have tried to be a good sport. I have kept my feeders full, even after the gluttony Fred and his kin have shown. I finally had enough one day. It had been three days and both of my feeders were completely empty, yet again. It was getting cold and the birds needed sustenance, yet with both feeders being occupied with our furry nemesis and friends, they couldn't get a bite in.
I hooked Ozzie up for a walk and decided to let Ozzie scare Fred on the way. I stomped out of the house making as much noise as I could to give Fred fair warning we were coming. Ozzie ran ahead of me stretching his retractable lead to its end around the corner of my porch, trying to reach the feeders and Fred joy.
Hearing the familiar rattle of the feeder, I thought the three musketeers had scurried down the feeders and across the yard which was their custom, but no. Fred and his posse were casually stuffing their faces, unconcerned by Ozzie and his imitation of a Tasmanian devil below. I drug Ozzie away for our walk, as I hatched our revenge. Upon our return, before we cleared the large azalea, I let Ozzie go. I figured if Fred was so unafraid of my poor little dog's best attempt at striking fear in the rodent, I'd show him a thing or two.
Ozzie tore at the feeders. This time all three squirrels darted down the poles into the bushes waiting to scurry across the yard safely to the telephone pole. Fred decided to be a smartie-pants. He jumped onto the porch and what he thought would be freedom. He ran to the stairs on the other side, but Ozzie had his number, meeting him on the stairs blocking his retreat. Fred did a 180 back to the other edge of the porch, but not before Ozzie was back around to the front. Fred was trapped. The pest darted back and forth, crazed for escape. Ozzie got tired of the game quickly after he won, and let Fred go. I don't think I've seen that squirrel run as fast before! #ozzie #fred #michelenimtz
